How to convert time units
Every time unit is related to one base unit (Second, s) by an exact factor. To convert, multiply by the factor of the unit you start from and divide by the factor of the unit you want.
value in new unit = value × (factor of old unit ÷ factor of new unit)
For example, 1 h = 3 600 s and 1 min = 60 s, so 1 h = 60 min.

Worked examples
Convert 1 h to min
- 1 h = 3 600 s and 1 min = 60 s.
- 1 × 3 600 ÷ 60 = 60 min.
Convert 50 ms to ns
- 1 ms = 0.001 s and 1 ns = 1 × 10⁻⁹ s.
- 50 × 0.001 ÷ 1 × 10⁻⁹ = 50 000 000 ns.
Convert 250 yr to µs
- 1 yr = 31 557 600 s and 1 µs = 1 × 10⁻⁶ s.
- 250 × 31 557 600 ÷ 1 × 10⁻⁶ = 7.8894 × 10¹⁵ µs.

FAQ
How many Minute units are in one Hour?
1 h = 60 min.
How do I convert h to min?
Multiply by 60 (the factor 3 600 ÷ 60). To go back, divide by 60 or multiply by 0.01666667.
What is the nanosecond (ns) used for?
Electronics, signals.
What is the microsecond (µs) used for?
Microcontrollers, pulses.
Are the conversion factors exact?
Where a unit is defined exactly (the inch is 25.4 mm, the pound is 0.45359237 kg, standard gravity is 9.80665 m/s²) the factor is exact; others are given to ten or more digits. Results are shown to seven significant digits.
